From a Moment to a Movement:
Workforce, Skills & Opportunity Youth
The Social Innovation Summit, with support from Walmart.org, convenes and educates industry leaders to address the systemic barriers that impede the American workforce, particularly for opportunity youth: people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither working or in school.
Through a series of engagements with renowned experts, SIS will aim to center skills-based learning across the workforce development initiatives of both business and philanthropic leaders, generating a collaborative cross-enterprise approach to talent development that will help employers advance opportunity youth.
Across industries and geographies, this program will bring together workforce and community leaders to develop a close-knit network of leaders who can collaborate and support each other to drive improved outcomes for opportunity youth across America.
We hope you will join us.

More About the Program / FAQ
Opportunity Youth – individuals aged 16 to 24 who are disconnected from school and work – face significant barriers to education, employment, and economic mobility. This group represents staggering untapped potential within our society, with an abundance of talent and ambition, yet they encounter systemic hurdles that hinder their ability to access meaningful employment and pathways to success.
At the same time, industries are grappling with the imperative to build and cultivate a workforce that reflects the diversity of our nation. Bridging this gap between untapped potential and workforce demand is not just a moral imperative but an economic necessity.
To address this challenge effectively, and foster a truly inclusive economy, it is imperative for companies to develop innovative programs and initiatives that not only provide the necessary skills and training but also dismantle the systemic barriers hindering the advancement of Opportunity Youth.
This is why Walmart and Social Innovation Summit partnered to design a new initiative, “Opportunity Youth: From a Moment to a Movement”, to bring together renowned experts and industry leaders aimed at helping spread awareness and understanding of how businesses and organizations can help advance opportunity youth and close the economic mobility gap that plagues our society.
